Pita bread is a real classic in Greece and goes well with almost every dish. Whether as a side dish to grilled meat, as a base for gyros or with a delicious dip - pita bread is versatile and simply irresistible. Our tip: Fill the pita with fresh vegetables, cheese and olive oil for a quick, delicious snack.

Ingredients for 4 pita breads:

Preparation:

Difficulty level: medium

Preparation time: 60 minutes including rising time

  1. Dissolve the fresh yeast together with the sugar in the lukewarm water. Let the mixture stand for 5-10 minutes until it foams slightly.
  2. Put the flour in a large bowl, make a well in the middle and pour in the yeast mixture. Add the salt and the Minos extra virgin olive oil added.
  3. Knead everything into a smooth dough. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour. Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes until it has doubled in size.
  4. After rising, divide the dough into four equal pieces and shape them into round flatbreads (approx. 1 cm thick).
  5. Heat a grill pan or regular skillet over medium heat and lightly brush with Minos Extra Virgin Olive Oil for Frying .
  6. Place the pitas in the pan and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until golden brown and slightly puffed. For extra flavor, sprinkle the pitas with sesame seeds or herbs before baking.
  7. Serve the pita bread warm – perfect with tzatziki, grilled vegetables or as a side dish to your favorite dish.
