Ingredients for 4 pita breads:
- 400 g flour (wheat flour type 550)
- 20 g fresh yeast
- 240 ml lukewarm water
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 2 tablespoons Minos extra virgin olive oil
- 1 tbsp Minos extra virgin olive oil for frying
- Optional: sesame seeds or herbs for sprinkling
Preparation:
Difficulty level: medium
Preparation time: 60 minutes including rising time
- Dissolve the fresh yeast together with the sugar in the lukewarm water. Let the mixture stand for 5-10 minutes until it foams slightly.
- Put the flour in a large bowl, make a well in the middle and pour in the yeast mixture. Add the salt and the Minos extra virgin olive oil added.
- Knead everything into a smooth dough. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more flour. Cover the bowl with a clean cloth and let the dough rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes until it has doubled in size.
- After rising, divide the dough into four equal pieces and shape them into round flatbreads (approx. 1 cm thick).
- Heat a grill pan or regular skillet over medium heat and lightly brush with Minos Extra Virgin Olive Oil for Frying .
- Place the pitas in the pan and cook for about 3-4 minutes on each side, until golden brown and slightly puffed. For extra flavor, sprinkle the pitas with sesame seeds or herbs before baking.
- Serve the pita bread warm – perfect with tzatziki, grilled vegetables or as a side dish to your favorite dish.
