Extra virgin olive oil is an integral part of the Mediterranean diet. The traditional Mediterranean diet is characterized by a high intake of fruit and vegetables, nuts, cereals and, of course, olive oil. Their benefits for improved heart and blood vessel health have now been scientifically proven several times. Olive oil with its special ingredients plays a crucial role in this. Its high content of the unsaturated fatty acid "oleic acid" ensures that the level of cholesterol in the blood is kept in check. Olive oil also contains vitamin E. The most interesting and effective effect comes from the polyphenols (biophenols), which, for example as tyrosol and oleuropein, protect blood fats from oxidative stress. This keeps the arteries supple and does not constrict. For this effect, at least 20g, i.e. approx. 1 1/2 tablespoons, olive oil should be consumed per day. Also make sure you have a varied and balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.
